MASTERS, WHERE ARE YOU? WE NEED YOUR NEW ADDRESS
INFORMATION.
PLEASE FILL OUT THE FORM BELOW AND SEND IT:
Needless to say it was another
perfect, English Rugby day... Soft
ground and
a constant drizzle of rain, sleet and snow. We fought the Japanese up
and
down Flander's field in a body steam fog, rucking and rolling through
the
center pitch mud like deranged wildebeasts. It would have been an
awesome
spectacle, if anyone actually came to watch.
The Masters again showed up with a backfield and full side (slightly
weak in
the forwards) and were able to keep their undeafeted Spring season
going.
This may have had a lot to do with T-ball and Little League
cancellations,
but the Dads didn't seem to mind leaving the little ones home to get a
good
run in the weather. Unfortunately, the "unscored" upon record, fell
Saturday, as Old Japan was as determined as ever to give the Masters a
great
game.
MyMy was designated referee (the regular ref didn't show up). No
worries as
it gave Mike a chance to exact his revenge on Alex. Alex was unable to
score
until late in the second half, (with some assistance from NewGuy's
boot). As
NewGuy was playing for the Japanese at the time, and Michael hates
NewGuy
more than Alex, the knock-on was not called, as the Selfish B-tard
supposedly
released on NewGuy's foot.
Also scoring for Morris was Tony (a couple times), Eric, Martin and
quite a
few others. Japan played hard, but was only able to answer the Morris
tries
with one of their own, after commiting all the way to the sixth or
seventh
phase. Not a bad defense boys.
A lot of Morris' enhanced play was attributed to the jersey washing
that
Omar had delivered for the team. Neatly folded and downy fresh, it must
of
been a pleasure to wear them. Unfortunately, Omar was selected for the
Old
Japan backfield in the second half and Neil saw fit to plow him into
the
try-post at full speed just prior to scoring under the posts. Neil had
been
working out with extra lagers this
winter and his enhanced mass certainly made a difference when thrown
against
our coy, Cuban backfielder. Omar, face down in the mud, made several
gurgling "ooooh oooooh" noises before finally rising and walking in a
wobbly
circle. As expected, Omar assigned Neil the "laundry boy" office for
the
Union game.
After 50 minutes of hard fought, wet rugby, we went inside the
clubhouse to
share some of Ginette's Sausage and Peppers/Ziti and guzzle a few
pitchers
of Yeungling. Old Japan took the opportunity to sell us several dozen
T-Shirts with Japanese writting on them. We were told they said "New
York Old Japan Rugby", but Jack heard them laughing and thinks the
shirts
really say "Stupid Caucasian Barbarians, we will impregnate your
sisters and
leave for the Land Of The Rising Sun". Either way, a pretty cool shirt
to have.
